it looks like a narrow gauge rail road which probably contributed to them being abandoned. Love the picture though and you just don't see narrow gauge tracks -they ripped out the historic narrow gauge tracks in my town for the new mass transit and commuter rail and the last remaining section became a park with two paths for walkers and biker riders. This was cool to see, BTW where are these located?

Hi:wave:, it is in southern Germany, on a wet and unstable peat ground where no truck can operate. Narrow gauges are still common in Europe, often reaktivated for guests and tourists.

Every time I find or see abandoned tracks, I always muse on the whys and hows of them being abandoned, and especially who used them and where they'd lead me.

A perfect representation of what I like about these old railways. :D

This looks like a double gauge track and its missing the rails on the outside. I have seen these intact before they are really interesting.

It wasn´t double gauge, just a very wet and unstable ground. Must be an industrial gauge, like in mines. It´s still used for visitors sometimes.

:)Thank you! It was a peat harvesting area, the moor has been renaturated ten years ago and nature takes it back quickly.
